First posted in the Madras, India, magazine The Hindu in 60, ‘‘A Horse and Two Goats'' would not achieve a vast international viewers until 1970 when it started to be the title account of R. K. Narayan's seventh variety of short stories, A Horses and Two Goats and Other Stories. This reached a much wider target audience in 85 when it was included in Under the Banyan Woods, Narayan's 10th and best-selling collection. By now Narayan was well established among the most prominent Of india authors composing in English in the twentieth century. The storyline presents a comic dialogue between Muni, a bad Tamil-speaking villager, and a wealthy English-speaking businessman coming from New York. They are engaged in a conversation by which neither can understand the other peoples language. With gentle wit, Narayan explores the clashes between rich and poor, and among Indian and Western tradition.

Narayan is best known intended for his just fourteen novels, a lot of which occur in the imaginary town of Malgudi. Many of the stories in the thirteen short story collections also occur in Malgudi, but ‘‘A Horses and Two Goats'' will not. This makes up the fact the story has attracted little or no critical commentary; however , each of the attention they have drawn has become positive. The storyline is seen as an excellent example of Narayan's dexterity in creating joining characters and humorous conversation, but it is not deemed one of his greatest performs.
